COUNCIL MEMBER VAN BRAMER ANNOUNCES FUNDING FOR TEEN ROOM AT WOODSIDE LIBRARY

On Tuesday, October 18th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer was joined by Tom Galante, President and CEO of the Queens Library, at the Woodside Library to announce $125,000 in capital funding that will be used for a new reading room for teens.
Teens are among the most avid library-users. More than 80% of teens visit their library each year. By renovating the space and carving out an area for young adults, the library becomes more efficient and welcoming to the teens and adult users.
“The Woodside Library and libraries throughout the district and city are extremely important as they provide resources for research, safe, quiet spaces for studying, and encourage literacy for all ages. Providing funding for the teen reading room will allow for necessary improvements to this space and makes it even more appealing to teens. I will continue to support the Woodside Library to make certain it remains the vital resource it has been for over 100 years,” said Council Member Van Bramer.
“Council Member Van Bramer continues to be a stalwart supporter of libraries and programs that benefit youth. We are very appreciative that he is making the teen area possible at Woodside,” said Thomas W. Galante.
Following the announcement, teen volunteers at the library presented Council Member Van Bramer with a plant to thank him for his efforts, which he then planted in the garden across the street from the library. The announcement came prior to a popular program about animals that was being conducted at the library by the Alley Pond Environment Center.
