COUNCIL MEMBER VAN BRAMER CELEBRATES VICTORY WITH WOODSIDE HOUSES FAMILY

On December 8th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer joined Ms. Teresa Mendez in celebrating her newly cleaned, mold-free home in the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) Woodside Houses Development. Not long ago, the same apartment was covered in mold and had become unlivable. After being unable to get results for over a year on her own, Ms. Mendez reached out to the Council Member’s office for help.
Council Member Van Bramer personally visited the Mendez residence and saw the unacceptable living conditions. The mold was not only an eyesore, but it had begun affecting Ms. Mendez’s health. The Council Member and his staff immediately began advocating on Ms. Mendez’s behalf. Van Bramer contacted NYCHA demanding that they take urgent action to rid the home of mold and repair the damage that it had caused. He also teamed up with Univision Channel 41 to shed light on the case.
Thanks to the actions of the Council Member and his staff, NYCHA responded and the cause of the mold has been determined and fixed. Once the mold was removed, the apartment was freshly cleaned and painted. In addition, the family was given new cabinets and a new refrigerator.
Since taking office two years ago, Council Member Van Bramer’s office has handled over 4,000 cases, many of which were housing and quality of life issues.
“Everyone deserves to be able to live in healthy and safe conditions and I will continue to work to make sure that this is a reality for each and every person in District 26,” said Council Member Van Bramer. “With a new year coming, this is a fresh, clean start for the Mendez family and I am very pleased to know that they will spend these holidays mold-free.”
