Council Member Van Bramer Helps Launch New Season of Chocolate Factory

On Wednesday, September 21st, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer joined over 60 local supporters and artists throughout New York City to celebrate the fall lineup of the Chocolate Factory Theater in Long Island City. Van Bramer spoke at the opening night of the first show of the season “Shy Showoff.”

Council Member Van Bramer, a great supporter of the Chocolate Factory Theater, showed his support by securing $10,000 for programing in 2011 and 2012 for a total of $20,000. The Council Member, in conjunction with Speaker Quinn and the City Council, secured approximately $1,000,000 for 2013 in capital improvements.

The Obie Award-winning Chocolate Factory Theater supports the creation of new work in a variety of disciplines including theater, dance, music, multimedia and the visual arts, and the funding that supports the Chocolate Factory pays for the artists and cultural events that keep patrons coming and strengthens the Long Island City art scene.

“I am a proud supporter of the Chocolate Factory, as it provides a unique venue for artistic expression in Queens. Giving local artists an opportunity to actually work and showcase their talent in the community attracts visitors from all over, and increases the desirability to live and work in the neighborhood, ” said Council Member Van Bramer.
