On Saturday, August 13th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer attended The Ravenswood Houses Family Day Festivities where he presented a proclamation to Resident Association Board Members and residents honoring the community’s 60th anniversary. Ravenswood Houses were completed on July 31st, 1951, and have been providing an affordable housing alternative for the communities of western Queens, housing roughly 5,000 residents. Van Bramer joined the families for BBQ, games, space walks, face-painting, and dancing along to the DJ. Council Member Van Bramer has allocated $10,000 to Ravenswood Residents Association in 2010 and 2011 for a total of $20,000, which contributes to the upkeep of the facilities as well as provide funding for events such as Family Day.
“The Ravenswood Houses not only provides safe and affordable housing, but also opportunities for residents to participate in many community, educational, and recreational programs. I commend the work of the Residents’ Association who make events like Family Day possible,” said Council Member Van Bramer.
