On September 27th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer joined Principal Yvonne Leimsider and PTA president, James Adams in kicking off the start of school at IS 204’s first PTA meeting of the year.
At the meeting, Van Bramer announced his capital funding allocation of $50,000 for 2011. These funds will be used to improve technology at the school, including purchasing new smart boards for classrooms, which is a vital tool for effective teaching. This grant allowed the school to finish putting smart boards in every classroom. Through the Council Member, an additional $20,000 has been allocated to IS 204 over the past two years for a total of $40,000 for its Cultural After School Adventure program with the Intrepid Museum.
Van Bramer has been very involved in making sure IS 204 students have the appropriate tools to be competitive.
“IS 204 is a vital school in the community of Dutch Kills and Long Island City. The students deserve to have a nurturing environment, rigorous coursework, and current technology that will give them the skills to transition smoothly into high school and be a productive member of society. I am pleased to have been able to provide these resources,” said Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer.
