Council Member Van Bramer Meets With Queensbridge Seniors

Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer and his mother were welcomed by seniors and staff at the Queensbridge Senior Center. Van Bramer spoke with seniors over lunch and reviewed improvements to the facility, which included a newly created community garden started by the local seniors. The Council Member was later presented with a Jacob Riis T-shirt by William T. Newlin, Executive Director of Jacob Riis Settlement as a token of appreciation.
Senior services have always been an important priority for the Council Member, and he continues to support senior centers throughout the district. This year, over $170,000 has been put toward improving the quality of life at the Jacob Riis Senior Center, funding nutritious meals and renovations of the restrooms. This funding is in addition to the $30 million fought for by the City Council to be used for funding senior services.
“Seniors deserve everything and more from taxpayer dollars. It is truly a privilege to serve them. Our seniors deserve to age with dignity and comfort,” said Van Bramer.
