Council Member Van Bramer Secures Funding at PS 150 in Sunnyside

On September 22nd, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer attended the first P.S. 150 PTA meeting of the fall to celebrate the restoration of funding for the after-school program, as well as capital funding the Council Member was able to provide toward technology for the school.

The students presented a touching video of what has been accomplished through Van Bramer’s efforts including securing $50,000 in 2010, and another $50,000 for 2011. These funds have allowed the school to have a significant technological upgrade, including a fleet of new desktops for the computer lab and smart boards in almost half of the school’s classes.  In addition, for the second year in a row, Council Member Van Bramer was instrumental in restoring $296,000 for P.S. 150’s after-school program, which is run by Sunnyside Community Services. This program offers a safe and enriching environment for the students to participate in art, drama and dance, as well as tutoring opportunities during after school hours.

“P.S. 150 holds a special place in my heart. Seeing how excited kids are to have a wonderful learning environment reminds me of why I became a Council Member, and I will continue to work hard to make sure they have the right tools and resources in the years to come,”  said Council Member Van Bramer.

As a token of their appreciation, the children of P.S. 150, the PTA, and staff presented Council Member Van Bramer with a bat and baseball signed by the children in the after-school program.
