Council Member Van Bramer Visits Alma Mater

Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer visited William C. Bryant High School in Astoria to meet its new principal, Namita Dwarka, and speak with teachers, including his former teacher, Carl Brosnan. A 1987 graduate of Bryant, Council Member Van Bramer has been a strong supporter of his alma mater and was instrumental in preventing the school from closing last year. He has provided $200,000 in funding to the school for technology and other capital improvements, which will include a renovation of the Ethel Merman Auditorium.

“Bryant High School has served the community of Queens for over 100 years. The teachers genuinely care and work hard year after year to provide students with the tools they need to succeed. As long as I am in the City Council, I will continue the fight to make sure schools like Bryant remain open and receive the funding they need,” said Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer.
