On January 28th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer attended the Queens Lesbian & Gay Pride Committee’s Winter Pride Fundraiser at Astoria World Manor. The annual event brings together members of the LGBT community who are civically active and community minded. In this photo Council Member Van Bramer is joined with Assemblyman Michael DenDekker and Council Member Karen Koslowitz.
On January 28th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer also visited Saint Raphael’s youth basketball league in Long Island City. Council Member Van Bramer has been a supporter of Saint Raphael’s, securing funding for their youth basketball league since becoming elected. While in attendance Council Member Van Bramer was awarded with a plaque, thanking him for his support of St. Raphael’s Church over the years.
On January 28th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer joined Corpus Christi’s youth basketball league for their winter games in Woodside. Since being elected, Council Member Van Bramer has secured funding for their youth league which has helped reduce registration fees as well as provide uniforms to the neighborhood’s youth.
On Friday, January 27th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer joined Maura McCarthy, Queens Borough Commissioner of the Department of Transportation, business owners and community leaders to announce the reduction of 12-hour parking meters in Long Island City.
The parking meter changes come after community residents and businesses requested the need for short-term parking. Council Member Van Bramer worked with the Department of Transportation to help ensure parking accommodations were made available to customers looking to gain accessible spaces.
On January 26th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer attended Woodside on the Move’s annual meeting at the Kettle Restaurant in Woodside. On January 26th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer joined Mayor Michael Bloomberg, State Senator Michael Gianaris, Assemblywoman Cathy Nolan as well as Alan and Stuart Suna at Silvercup Studios in Long Island City as he announced 2011 as a year that broke all records for television production in New York City. The occasion also marked the 100th episode of Gossip Girl’s, one of several television series filmed in the Long Island City studio. As Chair of the Cultural Affairs Committee, Council Member Van Bramer supports thriving television and film studios such as Silvercup which calls Council District 26 home.
