On Saturday, October 22nd, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer spoke at his Alma Mater, Bryant High School, for the Tenth Anniversary Celebration of the Bryant Theatre Company, held in the Ethel Merman Theatre. The Council Member has allocated over $200,000 in capital funding to the high school including funding to renovate the Ethel Merman stage and auditorium.
On Friday, October 21st, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer introduced City Council Speaker Christine Quinn at the monthly meeting of the Ridgewood Democratic Club which is led by Assemblywoman Cathy Nolan.
On Friday, October 21st, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer visited the Academy of American Studies High School in Long Island City. The Council Member walked through the school with Principal Bassell, and visited a 9th grade English class studying the American classic, “To Kill a Mockingbird.”
On Friday, October 21st, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer joined students, Principal Janet Farrell and staff at PS 166 in Dutch Kills to donate supplies from his 2ndAnnual Back to School Supply Drive for local schools. This year, the Council Member’s drive received over 4,000 items that were donated by community members. The items were dropped off at five libraries throughout District 26 and his district office at 47-01 Queens Boulevard. The items included book bags, writing materials, rulers, and much more!
On Thursday, October 20th, Council Jimmy Van Bramer was honored at Sunnyside Community Services’ Annual Gala at Studio Square in Long Island City. The Council Member has been very dedicated to helping Sunnyside Community Services provide vital services to the community such as senior care, assistance for immigrants and youth recreational programs including saving PS 150’s afterschool program. Van Bramer also paid tribute to his late neighbor, Judy Steele, who passed away last year, and who was a long time board member at Sunnyside Community Services.

On Thursday, October 20th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer honored Ms. Elizabeth McQueen’s commitment to Queensbridge Park at the dedication ceremony of the storage container donated by TransCananda, which will hold park equipment, barbeque grills and lots of other supplies for events.
On Wednesday, October 19th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer joined Silvercup Studios owner, Alan Suna, at his newest Long Island City condominium development, The Industry LIC. The Council Member spoke with constituents and enjoyed artwork of LIC artist Jesse Winter, which was on display throughout the units.

On Wednesday, October 19th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer joined Speaker Quinn, UFT President Michael Mulgrew, and other elected officials to speak out against bullying and announce a new anti-bullying hotline. In the wake of numerous teen suicides as a result of verbal abuse and cyber bullying, the Council Member was pleased to support the efforts of the UFT in taking a stand by helping students in New York City schools who feel they have no one to turn to.
