On October 19th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer, Chair of the Cultural Affairs and Libraries Committee, kicked off the LIC Partnership's Queens Art Institutions Breakfast Panel. Van Bramer introduced the panel and addressed the critical role that arts institutions play in strengthening and supporting communities in Queens. The panel discussion focused on the role of arts institutions in Queens and the issues they face, featuring Peter Katz, Chief Operating Officer, MoMA P.S.1, Amy Hau, Administrative Director, Noguchi Museum; Chair, LIC Cultural Alliance, Carl Goodman, Executive Director, Museum of the Moving Image, and Tom Finkelperl, Executive Director, Queens Museum.
On Tuesday, October 18th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer was joined by Tom Galante, President and CEO of the Queens Library, at the Woodside Library to announce $125,000 in capital funding that will be used for a new reading room for teens.
On October 18th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer joined community residents, businesses and local elected officials for a sampling of some of the delicious neighborhood restaurants at the 2nd Annual Taste of Sunnyside, hosted by the Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce and Sunnyside Shines Business Improvement District (BID). The event, held in the Sunnyside Community Services Ballroom, featured food from Ariyoshi, Arriba Arriba, Bantry Bay, Bistro 46, Copper Kettle, Dazies,
Dee Thai Restaurant, de Mole, Donatos, 43, Mama's Empanadas, Nodus, Pink Icing, Quaint Restaurant, Real Santa Fe Steakhouse, Saffron Garden, Salt and Fat, Sunrise Restaurant & Grill, White Castle, Claret Wine Bar and Manhattan Beer Distributors.
On Monday, October 17th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer joined Mayor Bloomberg, DOT Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan, and other elected officials on Skillman Avenue in Woodside to announce a better approach to coordinate planned roadwork changes including large scale digging on streets. The changes will require advanced notice of planned street work, all appropriate permits, better execution of work, and large scale savings.
On Monday, October 17th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer held a press conference on 46th Street and Queens Boulevard in Sunnyside to alert the public and aggressively search for a perpetrator who has been groping women, and one 12-year-old girl in the Sunnyside/Woodside neighborhoods of Queens. The suspect, described as a Hispanic male between 30 and 40, has been seen riding a black mountain bike as he rides up behind the women and grabs them inappropriately before fleeing. He has been striking the same general area within a few blocks of each other. The most recent incident happened October 7th at 39th Avenue and 46th Street.
On October 15th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer joined the President of the Tenants Association at Queensbridge Houses, Pamela Thrower, in the Free Fall Festival, held at the Jacob Riis Center. The event, sponsored by Citi, featured food, games, and crafts for the kids.
On October 15th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer joined members of the community at Sergeant Collins Park in Woodside as residents and the Council Member’s staff joined forces for a day of cleaning, fixing, and planting, sponsored by the Northern Woodside Coalition and Citizen’s Committee for New York City.

On October 15th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer joined residents and kids at the Ravenswood Community Center in Long Island City for their fall feast. The event, hosted by Citi Bank, featured arts and crafts, and performances throughout the day.
On October 15th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer joined Publicolor founder Ruth Lande Shuman, Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc. members from St. John's University and volunteers to paint the 21st Street footbridge in Long Island City. Using bright colors and patterns, Publicolor, a New York City-based non-profit organization that aims to improve education in youth by promoting an imaginative use of color in school buildings, partnered with the NYC Department of Transportation to complete this project as part of the Urban Art Program.
On Friday, October 14th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer joined students, faculty, family and friends of recently deceased young teachers and students of PS 76 in Long Island City. The Council Member gave words of encouragement during a ribbon cutting in celebration of funding allocated for the children’s playground and garden project, which includes a greenhouse and 3 benches dedicated to the memories of Sharon Byrne, Joey Byrne, Michelle Lugo, Kyle DiStasio, and Aaron Stewart.
