On Thursday, October 13th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer spoke at the In & Out of Time Opening at the Z Hotel in Long Island City. As Chair of Cultural Affairs, The Council Member joined other art enthusiasts for a night to celebrate Long Island City native artist, Rafael Gonzales, whose work is the very first on display at the grand opening of the Z Gallery.
On Wednesday October 12th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer visited the Isamu Noguchi Foundation & Garden Museum, in Long Island City. The Council Member joined the Executive Director, Jenny Dixon, and Board Chair, David D. Holbrook for the reception, which honored the legacies and visions of two pioneering artists – Isamu Noguchi and Mark di Suvero.
On Wednesday October 12th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer hosted a reception at SHI restaurant in Long Island City introducing members of the community to the East River Development Alliance. The Council Member has allocated over $200,000 in funding for ERDA’s many services, which help residents in public housing reach education goals and financial independence.
On Tuesday, October 11th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer joined Assemblywoman Catherine Nolan and Community Board 2 Chair, Joe Conley, at Saffron Garden restaurant in Sunnyside to honor business owners in the community that contribute to the vibrancy of the neighborhood, and continue to keep the local economy thriving. The Council Member is a strong supporter of local business leaders, as they provide convenient, quality services for the growing population every day.
On Tuesday, October 11th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer joined Council Member Danny Dromm on the steps of City Hall to celebrate "National Coming Out Day." The Council Member also talked about the importance of LGBT history.
On Monday, October 10th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer spoke to constituents enjoying the weather and vendors at the Greenpoint Avenue Festival in Sunnyside. The Council Member visited the various booths set up along the thoroughfare, provided literature about the district, and asked for suggestions for renovations to the nearby Noonan Playground.
On October 8th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer joined fellow elected officials for the Federation of Italian American Organizations of Queens' Annual Columbus Day Parade that kicked off at Kaufman Astoria Studios and marched through Astoria. Van Bramer talked about the important role of Italian heritage in Queens and the considerable contributions that the Italian community has made to New York City.
On Friday, October 7th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer visited Bryant High School in Astoria to meet its new principal, Namita Dwarka, and speak with teachers, including his former teacher, Carl Brosnan. A 1987 graduate of Bryant, Council Member Van Bramer has been a strong supporter of his alma mater and was instrumental in preventing the school from closing last year. He has provided $200,000 in funding to the school for technology and other capital improvements.
At the City Council Stated Meeting, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer honored 13 year-old Rocky Sanabria, a transgender teen who lives in Woodside, and has shown immense bravery, wisdom and leadership at a young age.
On Thursday, October 6th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer joined State Senator Michael Gianaris, Assemblywoman Catherine Nolan, community leaders, and dog owners to celebrate the completed renovations to the Vernon Boulevard dog run in Long Island City. The Council Member was pleased to collaborate with local elected officials, state parks, community leaders, and residents to provide a much needed service for the many dog owners in the growing and vibrant neighborhood.
