On Sunday, September 25th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer spoke at the New York Society for Ethical Culture. The Council Member presented proclamations honoring Henry Bunch and the Social Service Board of the New York Society for their contributions to the community including everything from coaching a youth soccer league to social service projects like nurturing the artistic expression of individuals living on the street.
On Saturday, September 24th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer, Officers and Members of Construction & General Building Laborers Local 79, and MTDC Officials from New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) hosted an informational fair at Queensbridge Park in Long Island City to celebrate the success of the Construction Management/Build Program and recruit people interested in joining the labor union.
On Saturday, September 24th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer joined the Ravenswood Residents' Association for the Back to School Community Festival at the Ravenswood Houses. The event, which provided health related information and resources, featured a Community Healthcare Network van, which was giving free health and wellness tips and HIV tests for residents.

On September 22nd, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer attended the first P.S. 150 PTA meeting of the fall to celebrate the restoration of funding for the after-school program, as well as capital funding the Council Member was able to provide toward technology for the school.
On Thursday, September 22nd, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer joined David and Donna Drimmer, owners of Matted LIC Gallery in Long Island City, for their Gala Fall Opening, which featured artwork by George Cannata, Jorge Posada and Naide.
On Thursday, September 22nd, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer met with Rabbi Zev Wineberg and members of the community at the new home of the Chabad of Long Island City. The Council Member joined Rabbi Zev for the traditional blessing of the mezuzah as they hung it in the doorway. The event also featured a sampling of different types of honey and artwork by Yitzchok Moully, the Pop Art Rabbi.
On Thursday, September 22nd, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer joined Mayor Bloomberg, fellow elected officials and the presidents of New York City’s three library systems at the Seward Park Library to announce the “New Chapter” program. The Council Member shared his support of the initiative which allows young people to begin the new school year with a clean slate free of library fines and penalties.
On September 21st, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer joined Principal Lou Pavone in kicking off the start of school at PS 78’s first PTA meeting of the year.
At the meeting, Van Bramer announced his capital funding allocation of $50,000 for 2011. That same amount was provided last year in 2010. This $100,000 is used to improve technology at the school, including purchasing new desktops, laptops, and smart boards with document cameras. In addition, Van Bramer made a contribution of $250 to the PTA in honor of the late Fausta Ippolito, a beloved community member and parent at PS 78 who lost her life at a young age to cancer this past summer.
On Wednesday, September 21st, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer joined over 60 local supporters and artists throughout New York City to celebrate the fall lineup of the Chocolate Factory Theater in Long Island City. Van Bramer spoke at the opening night of the first show of the season “Shy Showoff.”
