On December 22nd, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer joined Sister Tesa at Hour Children food pantry in Long Island City, where he delivered hundreds of toys and food that were donated by community members. This event concluded Van Bramer's 2011 holiday food drive that brought thousands of items of food to local food pantries this season.
On Thursday, December 22nd, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer delivered over 3,000 donated items to support victims of the fatal fire that occurred in Woodside on November 18th. The Council Member was joined at his district office by members of the displaced families, local Pastor Daniel Gilland and the Red Cross where the items were distributed amongst the families. These donations of diapers, food, cleaning products, clothing, and toys will help to ease the burden the families have faced since the fire.
On December 22nd, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer made a home visit to deliver a donation of toys to Woodside Houses' resident Lisette Robles for her children and grandchildren, including 3 year-old Jonah who is pictured here.
On December 21st, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer and fellow members of the Progressive Caucus rallied in support of SEIU 32 BJ's labor negotiations on the steps of City Hall. As the son of parents with union jobs, Van Bramer has always been a strong supporter of unions and an advocate in the fight for fair and equitable employment.
On December 21st, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer joined seniors at Sunnyside Community Services for their annual holiday celebration. Council Member Van Bramer is a fervent supporter of senior services in the district.
On December 20th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer attended LIC Business Women's holiday reception and comedy show at Creek and the Cave in Long Island City.
On December 20th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer joined founder Nick Griffin and addressed the several hundred people gathered for Flux Factory's annual silent auction of over 100 works by artists. Flux Factory has been a driving forces in supporting a cultural artists' collective based in Long Island City and Council Member Van Bramer has worked closely with the group to expand its reach. The Council Member was also the honoree at last year's silent auction event for his work with the arts community and his role as Chair of Cultural Affairs.
On December 20th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer joined Rabbi Zev and the Chabbad of LIC/Astoria to celebrate the first night of Hanukkah by lighting the menorah at the corner of Vernon Blvd. and 50th Avenue in Long Island City.
On December 19th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer addressed students about the importance of arts in education, while attending the I.S. 125 Student Art Exhibition in Woodside. I.S. 125 has a dynamic art program with many talented teachers and students. At the exhibition, there was a variety of student art on display, including paintings, sculptures, and even a group of students singing songs from Les Miserables and Coldplay.
