On December 7th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer joined President Don McCallian and members of the United 40's Civic Association for their annual holiday celebration at St. Raphael's in Woodside. The event featured food, fun and a toy drive for kids in need.
On December 7th, seniors from the Ravenswood Senior Center and Director Christina Serna stopped by Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer's district office and graciously donated several large boxes of food to the 2nd Annual Holiday Food Drive. This donation is yet another example of how the Ravenswood seniors, including neighborhood legend Manny Wilson, have continued to give back to their community for many years. The donations will be given to a local food pantry and be distributed to those in need in the community.
On Wednesday morning, December 7th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer and Speaker Christine Quinn passed out fliers at the Broadway station in Astoria to alert the local community to a brutal sexual assault that took place on Sunday at Vernon Blvd. and 10th Street. The fliers urged caution and requested the community’s help in identifying and finding the guilty parties. Police are searching for a suspect described as late 20s, having blonde hair and blue eyes; and about 5-feet-10. Police are also looking for two other men who they believe were accessories to the attack.
On Tuesday, December 6th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer participated in the lighting of Queens of Angels Nativity display with five churches: Queen of Angels, All Saints Episcopal, Sunnyside Reform, Christ Lutheran, and Grace Fellowship. The event started with the lighting of a Christmas tree at Sunnyside Reformed Church at 48th Street and Skillman Avenue. Following the tree lighting, Council Member Van Bramer joined the crowd in singing Christmas Carols as they marched down Skillman to light a Nativity scene at Queen of Angels Church. On December 6th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer joined residents of 5th Street Lofts, the Gantry and Solarium for a holiday party and mixer at the newly opened Skinny's Cantina in Long Island City.
On December 5th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer toured the new Jet Blue facility at Queens Plaza in Long Island City. Jet Blue's new world headquarters is relocating to the area in early 2012, bringing over 1,000 jobs to the growing and revitalized Queens Plaza/Dutch Kills neighborhood.
On Monday, December 5th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer was joined by the Dutch Kills Civic Association, Community Board One and concerned residents for a rally and press conference to protest the installation of new Muni-Meters on 29th Street in Dutch Kills.
On Sunday, December 4th, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer greeted community members and joined the Northern Woodside Coalition for their annual holiday tree lighting ceremony, which this year took place on 58th Street in Woodside in front of Rita and John Manton’s home. Council Member Van Bramer and fellow elected officials gathered around the tree where they participated in festive carol singing.
On December 2nd, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer joined fellow elected officials to wish everyone a happy and healthy holiday at the Ridgewood Democratic Club's Annual Holiday Party.
